Falsified pharmaceuticals are an increasing risk worldwide. To continue to keep them out of legal distribution in Germany, pharmaceutical companies, wholesalers and pharmacists in Germany are proactive and have joined forces to better defend themselves against falsified medicines. As the National Medicines Verification Organisation, securPharm is building a system for the authentication of prescription drugs. securPharm is developing this system based on EU legislation such as the Falsified Medicines Directive and the associated Delegated Regulation. From 9 February 2019 onwards, pharmaceuticals for human use that are subject to mandatory verification will undergo a new authentication process before being dispensed to the patient.
